END SPECIAL ANTI-ROBBERY SQUAD (SARS)

End Special Anti-Robbery Squad (END SARS) is a social campaign in Nigeria opposing the Special Anti-Robbery Squad, a unit of the Nigerian Police Force.[1] It is a call to end police oppression and brutality in Nigeria. The campaign started as a social media campaign using the hashtag #ENDSARS to demand for Nigeria’s government to scrap and end the deployment of Nigeria Police Force Special Anti-Robbery Squad, popularly known as SARS.[2][3][4] Nigerians have shared stories of how members of SARS engaged in kidnapping, murder, theft, rape, torture, unlawful arrests, high-handedness, humiliation, unlawful detention, and extortion.

SARS officers profile youths based on appearance. They conduct illegal road blocks, ‘stop and search’, they operate without search warrants. Basically, they would harass, oppress, and extort innocent Nigerian Youths if the person dresses nicely, uses/use expensive gadgets such as iPhones and drive expensive cars such as Mercedes Benz. If found wearing expensive kicks such as Nike or Adidas, you could potentially be arrested and termed a fraudster. They arrest people who have piercings, tattoos, dreadlocks, gold chains etc Meanwhile a lot of SARS operatives have also been seen on dreadlocks, piercings and tattoos. They feel intimidated by the success of the Youth and they try their possible best to attack, murder, extort, abuse, torture and annihilate the citizens of Nigeria, both male and female alike.
